 Contest proves marketers can build world class models successfully.

July 30, 1996, Milwaukee, WI - Miglautsch Marketing announced victory in a head to head modeling competition. Model-2-MailTM is known for speed, completing a new model, validation, counts and names to tape in less than eight hours. Yet questions remained about how well these models would stack up against the four to twelve week multiple
regression models currently offered by leading service bureaus.

The statistician team was made up of seasoned modeling veterans with years of experience at one of the top five largest service bureaus. The statisticians had access to the full suite of SAS tools. Both teams worked with the same data. Model-2-MailTM used categorical variables, the stats team got this and continuous variables designed for multiple regression.

When the dust settled, Model-2-MailTM had won by less than 1%, but it was completed in hours instead of weeks. Results, based on purpose behavior in the file, were ranked by decile and compared.
